Souvenir

We wanted to explore how to create an audio-visual souvenir of a city and piloted an approach focusing on Brighton’s Big Wheel, by combining filmmaking, sound design and coding.

The experiment was showcased at the Brighton Digital Festival and made with support from Short Circuit.

Future avenues envisaged include creating a prototype to produce user-generated souvenirs.

Souvenir of a city was a collaboration with Brighton based composer/sonic artist and musician, Anya Ustaszewski and Manchester based technologist, Dave Mee.

Anya sampled sound on and around Brighton’s big wheel, and used sounds from everyday objects inspired by the wheel, to create the music, subtly manipulating the sound inspired by the images. Dave used his experience designing and creating unique interactive experiences using software, technology and social systems.
